THE Australian Electoral Commission will trial in Tasmania its new system of automatically enrolling voters and updating their addresses.
Legislation passed federal parliament in July that allows the commission to use information from "reliable sources", such as Centrelink, and state motor registries, to add people to the roll if it believes they are eligible, or change their address if it believes they have moved.
AEC electoral commissioner Ed Killesteyn told a Senate committee hearing on Tuesday that the new system will start in Tasmania from next month ahead of a national rollout.
