FIREFIGHTERS have downgraded the threat posed by a large bushfire on Queensland's Stradbroke Island but are warning residents to remain vigilant.
The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service's incident controller says the blaze on the island's north is "pretty much" under control.
"It's burning within containment lines. We are just patrolling and monitoring at the moment, and reinforcing some containment lines with backburning," Rob Boniwell told AAP late on Tuesday.
Showers during the day slowed the progress of the fire, which has been burning since Sunday.
On Tuesday evening it was being held about two kilometres from the town of Amity Point.
Crews were working to stop its movement south towards Beehive Rd, but properties were no longer under threat, Mr Boniwell said.
On Tuesday morning Amity Point residents were told to prepare to relocate as the fire bore down on the small fishing and holiday town.
The warning was cancelled by mid-afternoon as firefighters gained the upper hand.
Mr Boniwell urged residents to tune in to radio and social media to track the fire's progress.
Crews will remain on the scene overnight backburning to reinforce containment lines.
On Sunday the bushfire destroyed four caravans, a large shed, a demountable house and cars when it tore through the Myora area.
